Thanks for stopping by my happy corner of internet land to catch up with what has been going on in the world of Modern Barn Blocks.  Here you'll hear the latest on what has been going on behind the scenes at Put a Quilt on It as well as links and photos for some other things I have been feeling and loving these past few weeks.

How I'm feeling:

Mixed feelings right now.  We are in our first week of 1st grade.  I love my son's school and it's wonderful being back with the community of staff, students and families.  I also miss having my little guy around all day.  I miss hearing the little conversations that go on all day as he chats with his little sister.

Roseville Community Preschool

My daughter will be returning to preschool after Labor Day.  She enjoys a true summer break.  (Isn't that the dreamiest preschool you've ever seen?) . This will be my last year having a child home with me all day before full day kindergarten starts up for her.  I'm feeling pretty melancholy about it all, but I'm determined to make the most out of our special one on one time together.

What I'm up to:

Around my house, we are in back to school mode; getting used to early mornings, packing school lunch and all of those school functions.  We also started another season of soccer, so most afternoons you can find me out on the fields.

Tool organization

Last week I felt a sudden wave of nesting and decided to tackle my "room of shame" aka my mud room.  Phase 1 of this project involved painting the inside of the broom closet a lovely pastel pink.  I added a peg board to the back making a clear and organized spot to keep all of my most used tools close at hand.

Barn Block latest:

Our wonky shirt continues to fly off the shelf.  There are a VERY limited number of shirts left in stock right now.  Grab one while you can!

We are also sold out on some of my favorite original size barn blocks and mini barn blocks and low on many other popular designs.  I've had numerous requests for a re-print of our minis.  Which block would you like to see in a mini?  Do you love seeing new designs?

The holidays will be upon us before we know it.  I have seen a few stores stocking the shelves with Halloween items already.  With that said, we would love to have some new designs available for all of you soon.  I'm currently in the brainstorming/creative part of the design process and constantly thinking about color schemes, cohesive themes and other ideas to make our blocks even better.  I love hearing your ideas and wishes for blocks you'd like to see in the future.  Let me know in the comments if there's something special or a color that you think we're missing.

Under the needle:

I've been doing a little bit of selfish sewing when I can.  I've always wanted to make a log cabin quilt so I finally got to it and decided to use my treasured stash of Anna Maria Horner prints.  A few years ago I picked up a few of her gray toned blender fabrics and I'm hopeful that this will be a great project to incorporate them at last.

Stuff I love:

Making It Barn Quilt on NBC

  • It should come as no surprise that I've been digging the new NBC reality show "Making It".  The concept of the show is that a handful of creative types are challenged with a quick DIY project (snack stadium, terrariums, photo display) and then they are faced with a larger project (a "quilt" or a play house).  The thing that really sets it apart from other reality competition shows is the set and the hosts.  Pretty to look at inspiration on everything from the floors to the reclaimed wood quilt wall to the barn quilt outside.  I even stalked Instagram until I found the person responsible for the set design (@jpconnelly).  On top of everything else, they just put out a new video on YouTube with an interview from "craft consultant" Lauren Shields talking specifically about the barn quilt.  (How do I get this job?!?) . I'm also so happy that they are keeping with the puns in each episode.  If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to set your DVR because it's on late!
  • I just finished the book "Educated" after it was recommended to me on Instagram and then it was the choice for a new book club.  We're meeting next week to discuss and I can't wait to talk more about it with others.  I was immediately drawn in to this memoir and I couldn't put it down for about three days.
  • Do you love county fairs?  The past few years my family has gone to our neighboring county fair set within the majestic pine trees just up the hill from us.  The contrast of the bright flashing lights with as the sun begins to set makes for the perfect summer night.  I waited in a line of about 40 people to get one of their famous corndogs and it was totally worth it.

I hope that summer has treated you well.  Thanks for following along with our blog.  It means a lot to me to share and to get feedback from you.
