Chances are if you're reading this blog and visiting this website, you've thought about what your ideal barn quilt would look like. As a quilter, I see inspiration everywhere, from floor tiles and wood work to kids books and natural surroundings. Now is the time to take that inspiration and take the chance to see it come together in the form of your very own barn block!
ENTER YOUR DESIGN
Curious? Here's what we're doing. From now until October 7 you can post a photo on Instagram showing what your dream block would look like. Make sure to tag me @putaquiltonit and use #putmyquiltonit or else I might miss it.
From the entries, Put a Quilt on It will select 4 finalists and then we will have a vote to see who is selected as the winner. (Full and official rules and details are below.) The winning design will be printed on the same great quality materials as our original Modern Barn Blocks and will be featured for sale on our website.
So what are we looking for? Barn quilts come in many different styles and we want to see your originality shine through. Think about what will stand out from a distance as someone is driving by. Is there a special color scheme or symbol with significance to you and your family? Maybe you will find inspiration from an heirloom quilt.
WHAT WILL I WIN?
We have a great prize package for the winner! First of all, your design will be put into print by Put a Quilt on It so that you will receive your very own design in one of our original size Modern Barn Blocks! Your design will also be available for purchase by other fans of your work.
In addition, you will also win this incredible fabric bundle from our friends at Kiwi Fabric. This is the Carolyn Friedlander coordinate bundle which includes 20 fat quarters in Robert Kaufman Kona solids. Kiwi Fabric is a premium quality fabric shop on Etsy that carries some amazingly useful color coordinate bundles as well as our favorite designer collections.
We also have patterns for each of the finalists from two of my favorite designers. Alli Jensen has generously included a pattern from her shop Woodberry Way. This summer I put together her Star Kisses pattern but there are so many others on my wish list. You may fall in love with her latest pattern Summer Blossoms with its cheerful flowers or maybe get in the holiday spirit with Christmas Candy. The hardest part will be deciding which pattern is your favorite.
And if that's not enough, we also have a pattern by the talented Karen Lee from her shop Quiltaposy. Karen can be found on Instagram @quiltaposy and if you're not following her already, you should. She has just recently launched her pattern shop and already it is loaded with some awesome modern, minimalist and graphic designs. I have already put together her Make Your Mark pattern and thoroughly enjoyed the organic, freeing nature of her construction technique. Check out her Instagram to see some of the other examples of what quilters are making with Karen's patterns like this gorgeous Cabin Quilt.
Have fun with this. It's one of my favorite parts of running Put a Quilt on It. Sitting at my computer or with pen and paper and sketching new designs which then make it all the way to print is an incredible feeling. I've probably designed hundreds of different designs and color schemes and then narrowed things down to my absolute favorite favorites. Sometimes I will go back to my saved ideas. Sometimes, I wonder "what I was thinking?" At the end of the day though, it's about expressing your creativity and having fun. I hope you enjoy this special contest.
