Hello everyone! By the time this post goes live, I will be in beautiful Pasadena at the best place in the world right now for quilters, Quiltcon! If you follow me on Instagram, you've probably seen lots of behind the scenes peeks where we've been working overtime to get our vendor booth ready for the big show. While I fully intend on chronicling our entire journey that led us to this point, today I would like to share another fun item we have going on and that is what we call the "Winter Quilt Games"!
Since I know not everyone can make it to visit Quiltcon in person, I've partnered with some amazing quilting friends to bring the excitement back home to you. (Did you know that Quiltcon changes from west coast to east coast every year? Next year it will be held in Nashville. How awesome is that?)
But back to the Winter Quilt Games... if you want to play along, here's what you need to do. First, you need to be on Instagram. If you don't follow @putaquiltonit yet, now would be the time to do so. Find and "like" the post with the Winter Quilt Games graphic and the orange peel Olympic rings. From there, you will be led to another one of our participating quilters. "Like" their post, follow their Instagram account and then click to the next participant's account. Repeat the steps above and eventually you should end up back at Put a Quilt on It.
For the gold medal winner, we are giving away one Modern Barn Block of the winner's choice. And did you notice above? We have a limited quantity now of brand new MINI barn blocks! (The mini blocks are exclusively available in person at Quiltcon only for now.) The silver medal winner will win of our minis and to the bronze medal winner goes one of our super popular "wonky" t-shirts.
So are you wondering why you would want to check out all of these other quilters? Let me say a few words about each one and what they're adding to not one but THREE prize packages. If you already know and love any of these women, leave me a comment below and share why you are already a fan.
First off is Karen Lee of Quiltaposy. I first met Karen a few years ago at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show in Oregon. From the start, Karen has treated me like an old friend and I am so excited that she has launched her pattern shop Quiltaposy. Karen's work has been on display at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, at Quiltcon 2017 and 2018, in magazines as well as the latest book from the Modern Quilt Guild titled "Modern Quilts: Designs of the New Century".
Karen has not only donated two of her brand new quilt patterns, she is also adding a fabric bundle of eight 1/8 yard cuts so that you can make your very own "Make Your Mark" quilt. The Make Your Mark quilt (pictured above) is a fun and relaxing sew that is a great opportunity to play with color. I have made one myself using a gradient of Carolyn Friedlander fabrics from a Doe jelly roll.
The other quilt pattern you could win is called "Fallen Petal". This a bold, graphic modern quilt design and is based on Karen's quilt that was shown in Quiltcon 2017.
Another great prize we have for our gold medal winner is a shop credit from Katie Blakesley from Swim Bike Quilt. Katie has so many great patterns, it'll be touch to choose a favorite. I fell in love with the beautiful blocks and patterns in Katie's Vintage Quilt Revival book years ago. I used it as my inspiration when I was dreaming of my daughter's future nursery when I was pregnant.
Did you know that Swim Bike Quilt is now also offering batting and notions? New to the shop are two sizes of Quilter's Dream 100% cotton batting. Quilter's Dream is my batting of choice and I use it in all of my quilts. You can also look to the shop for useful items like marking pens, seam rippers and glass head pins.
Of course we couldn't have a giveaway for quilters without including fabric. Thanks to the wonderfully generous Kim at Kiwi Fabric (on Etsy) we have two beautiful solid fabric bundles to give away. The first is a custom bundle featuring 8 Kona solids that were handpicked to coordinate with one of our new blocks. The colors create a cheerful rainbow in Watermelon, Peony, Daffodil, Chartreuse, Lime, Candy green, Delft and Nightfall.
Kiwi Fabric is a wonderful source for not only the latest designer collections (Heather Ross's Kinder will be in the shop soon), but also custom bundles. When shopping online for fabrics, it's nearly impossible to put together solid coordinates based on screen colors. Kiwi Fabrics does the hard work for you and puts together gorgeous bundles like this one called "Blushing Bouquet". Our winner is going to love this!

Pattern drop has donated Quilter’s Dream batting plus a rainbow zip pack for the gold medal winner.
Some of you may know that I live in a small town outside of Sacramento. I was super excited last year to cross paths with Alli Jensen of Woodberry Way who is based not too far away from me. Alli and I met last year at a local quilt guild meeting and I was blown away by her trunk show displaying so many of the quilts she had made in such a relatively short quilting career. Her aesthetic is so clean and inspiring, I wish I had her same kind of vision and drive.
Alli has donated a PDF quilt pattern for each of our gold, silver and bronze level winners. I think her low volume "Chamomile" quilt pattern feels perfect for the snowy season.
Have you had enough prizes yet? No? We’ve got even more quilty swag for one lucky winner. Holly Leslie of Maker Valley is also throwing in three of her perfectly on trend enamel pins. You’ve probably known Maker Valley as the source for the quilt themed t-shirts that everyone has been wearing for years. I personally love “Sew, a needle pulling thread” and “Netflix and Quilt.” Follow Holly @makervalley on Instagram to see all of her fun products.
Last, but not least, we have a fun project pouch from Amy with Sewtopia. Perhaps you've seen this cheeky pouches making the rounds on social media. They are 16 x 10 and perfect for so many of your sewing tools to take with you on the go. Check out the events schedule here to see if you can join some of the best and brightest sewing instructors in the country for a few days of learning, sewing and sharing with others who share your passion.
